This ranks in my top 10 favorite new songs of the year... and I can't even think of the other nine yet. "The Forest In The Trees", by Rick Edwards. If you ever wondered why we call him the Folk Hero, this is the place to start.

SRC is closed? I didn't know that. Glad you told me before I showed up tonight with my guitar.

Yes, in a shocking turn of events -the sudden closing of Sports Rock Cafe- we the people of Shadowville are down to two open mics, the classic version at The Loft on Wednesdays (where I was first coaxed onto the stage in 1995, 14 years ago, amazing t...o think that!) and BJ's all-ages open mic at Fountain City Coffee on Thursdays. Am I leaving any out? I plan to write a special column for October on the slightly spooky way the crashing economy is starting to hit us, and to rally the poets, artists, musicians and madmen of our village to get out and support the places that are/were giving us a forum to make our visions available to the public... we don't want to see another beloved venue follow that path. Feedback, quotable quotes, *ideas* on how to help turn this trend to defeat around appreciated.

THANKS, Will! I couldn't resist doing that and, as you see, many in the audience remembered Idle Hour Park, Ma Beachie's, et al. I love some of the stuff I've heard from you as well... sorry not to be more specific right now. Hang in there, fellow dude!

The Lunatics are in the Hall!

Life changed for me in an instant. In one moment in time I knew that my life would never be the same again. Once I was a boy who on occasion enjoyed music. Then one day I knew that music would forever consume me. I knew I would never listen to it in the same way ever again. I knew it would no longer be the melody in the background of my life. I knew it would be my wa

This Dude Abides

Working musicians often wine about another hotel gig. But me, Stan & Jim didn't complain this time. We were invited to be ourselves, play our music, and mingle among a group of very special guests:

As we played, Sam Elliott strolled in! He's humble, looked me in the eye, asked me questions, and made great conversation with one eye squinted while speaking in his deep cowboy voice! Then he signed my guitar...<</b>BR>
