It's a pretty understood circumstance that radio stations, at least local radio stations, have policies against playing local musicians songs on the radio. There are few and far between stations that will, but only at very certain times ( like late at night ). I think what communities need, and not just this one, but um, all of them, is an organization that is put together and recognized as a music institution, that works as a business to deal with the corporate intities, to work towards putting local talent on the radio. This is not the normal channel to do this, I believe, They have very controlled channels one has to go through ( like a record label ). But if there were created a collective, maybe they would be more open to the idea. Just me thinking out loud, and perhaps not translated well, but you get the idea.

MIX 96.7 plays regional artists. Allegedly 103 plays local music, but I have been unable to confirm that mostly because I haven't really tried. Come to think of it, that's the only reason I haven't confirmed it...

ROCK 103 plays local artists that upload their music to our website (bottom of page) www.rock103online.com

I also feature local artists. In the past we've played and plugged higher tier bands playing Oxygen, SoHo and Mario's, so far.

This Friday at 5pm it's BLACKSMITHZ on ROCK 103.

We are currently looking for local bands to play outside the Columbus Civic Center for our ROCK 103 18th Birthday concert Bash with HINDER/ PAPA ROACH & 12 STONES November 6 from 10a-7p.

Interested?

Please send us a set list including covers and a link to your band audio page for us to review.

Thanks for the local music page.

Having been there and done that experience plastering telephone polls with band flyers, I am constantly trying my best to help support local music, while it is still local.

What I love about modern media is... it has a tangible price. Radio want want MORE people to listen (ratings). I have one vision to create this opportunity for local songwriters/ensembles...

Music first. If we musicians/creative produce quality material, that speaks for itself in the global market. I believe Columbus is a special place and *when* our local talent pool leaks a steady stream of collaborative professional local releases to the global market via CDBaby, Amazon & iTunes, the scene as a whole has more impact. More people are "concentratedly" invested.

When a large enough group of Columbus artists ready for prime time, the opportunities will appear brighter. There are a number of people waiting for this phenomena...

Promotion.
Getting a single spin on the radio through a promotion is one thing, but for our local media to WANT to follow the music scene, musicians, and music itself... there must be "something amazing is happening tonight." There is a real opportunity in Columbus to people to produce/promote shows, artists, and CDs locally in surrounding cities.

Publishing.
Also, the radio plays published music. A well-promoted NSAI Self-Publishing workshop would be good for us all. Anyone from NSAI on in the GREENROOM? :)

The Lunatics are in the Hall!

Life changed for me in an instant. In one moment in time I knew that my life would never be the same again. Once I was a boy who on occasion enjoyed music. Then one day I knew that music would forever consume me. I knew I would never listen to it in the same way ever again. I knew it would no longer be the melody in the background of my life. I knew it would be my wa

This Dude Abides

Working musicians often wine about another hotel gig. But me, Stan & Jim didn't complain this time. We were invited to be ourselves, play our music, and mingle among a group of very special guests:

As we played, Sam Elliott strolled in! He's humble, looked me in the eye, asked me questions, and made great conversation with one eye squinted while speaking in his deep cowboy voice! Then he signed my guitar...<</b>BR>
